I hit my head this morning. Hard. On the corner of the stackable washer/dryer in the very tight space that is my bathroom/laundry room.
After the stars stopped spinning, I waited.
What was I waiting for?
A stroke of genius.
My flux capacitor.
The only thing that came was a golf ball size lump on my forehead.
Lucky enough, I’ve remained conscious since and can see straight enough to write this post.
But sadly, my knock on the head didn’t wake up any sleeping idea.
Except this one …
Not only are we always half expecting that one day our great idea will come to us, but
we are also always half expecting it will come to us quite by accident.
So sorry you conked your head and it didn’t dislodge any mind blowing revelations. Perhaps later, when you’re asleep? ๐

Yes, perhaps later. I’ve been keeping myself awake for fear of concussion … ’cause that’s the kind of worrywart I am.

Jope you feel better Jen, and that the bonk on your head is only just that…nothing more. Reminds me, on my 40th b-day, I bonked my forehead–turned around into the edge of a door–and had a big bloody cut with a bandage over it, that night for a dinner party a friend threw for me, and for the next week. I still have a little scar. Great way to start a decade, eh? Reminder to me that I need to stop multi-tasking! Things like this tend to happen–I either break things or hurt myself–when I try to do too much at once, need to slow down. Now, there’s a lesson!

Totally spot on. I also typically take those experiences as reminders to slow down. In this case, though I really do think it was because of the way too tight space!

Ouch! Like many commenters above, hope you feel better, Jen. Interestingly enough, Ariana Huffington gave an impromptu Tedx speech on the value of a good night’s rest after she fell down and hit her head due to fatigue. Dreams sometimes contain good fodder for writing… maybe that’s where the “sleeping ideas” are hiding. ๐

Oy! Be careful! ๐
You know what, I think I have been waiting for some kind of life-changing idea to hit me in the middle of the night or something like that. In reality ideas and experiences build off each other. I don’t think they ever come out of nowhere even if it seems that way at first.
